UV Tanning FAQ

How Much Does This Cost? We offer a range of tanning equipment and products to cater to all budgets. Tans start at as little as five dollars at Bronze Ambition.

How Many Tanning Sessions Do You Recommend? Up to ten sessions is recommended to achieve a complete tan, sometimes more, sometimes less depending on your skin type and how fast you tan.

Average skin requires two to three visits a week during the first 2 weeks while building your base tan. Upon your arrival, one of our Smart Tan certified Tanning Consultants will provide you with a skin type analysis and recommend a program to help you to achieve your desired tanning goals.

Are Protective Eye Goggles Necessary? Yes. The Federation of Radiology and Health insists upon it. Goggles must be worn in each of our tanning booths. Unlike other salons, goggles are provided by Bronze Ambition free of charge. This is just another example of our value-added service.

Is Indoor Tanning Dangerous? No, because the output of UVB and UVA rays are controlled on indoor Tanning Equipment. Exposure times are also controlled according to the tanners skin type. Indoor tanning is safer than natural sunlight as long as it’s used in moderation. For those who are allergic to natural sunlight (this is called “photosensitivity”) indoor tanning or use of our UV Free Mystic Tan (link to MT Faq) is a sunless alternative.

How Are Your Beds Cleaned and Maintained? We use a germicidal solution designed for indoor tanning to clean and sanitize our beds after each use. Our team regularly inspects the beds to ensure maximum intensity levels are maintained and bulbs are changed regularly. All beds are closely monitored by our computer tracking system to ensure maximum output at all times. We use only the best quality tanning lamps to give you less red and more brown.

Can I Shower After Tanning? For optimum results, it is recommended that you wait at least 4 hours after tanning to take a shower.

I Thought Vitamin D Only Came From Natural Sunlight? No. The ultraviolet rays produced in tanning beds supply you with UV-B rays which are responsible for the development of Vitamin D. Indoor tanning is a way to moderate how much Vitamin D your body takes in at one time. Indoor tanning is also an excellent source of Vitamin D during months where outdoor exposure to natural sunlight is not available.

What is the difference between UVA and UVB Rays? UV-A rays are the most gentle and safest of the sun’s rays. They are responsible for completing your tan by turning the melanin in your skin a golden brown. UV-B rays are responsible for the tanning process by triggering the skin to release melanin, as well; UV-B rays supply your body with Vitamin D, an integral part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Sunless Tanning FAQ

What is Mystic Tan™? Mystic Tan® is UV Free and utilizes a spray on process designed to deliver a sunless tanning application combining bronzer, DHA and an Aloe Vera tanning solution to instantly transform your skin into a natural looking tan in less than 60 seconds.

What is DHA? DHA is dihydroxyacetone, a carbohydrate compound approved by the FDA for use in externally applied sunless tanning solutions. DHA is usually derived from a vegetable source like beets or sugar cane; and has long been used as a color additive for cosmetic application to the skin. Most over the counter make-up products you purchase contain DHA

Will It Turn Me Orange? No! We use only Premium Mystic Tan Solution that is guaranteed not to turn you orange. Mystic Tan tanning solution assures that all areas of the body get a uniform coating of the solution in the exact quantity required to produce a golden brown tan.

How long do I have to wait after I tan to have a shower or swim? The minimum required time to wait before showering or swimming is 4-6 hours. For best results, we recommend no showering, excessive sweating or exposure to water for at least 12 hours.

If you wash off the solution earlier you may diminish the intensity of the tan. The bronzer will wash off immediately because it is water soluble but the DHA will remain on your skin and the colour will intensify reaching its maximum colour within 24 hours.

If using Mystic Tan can I also use tanning beds? Yes! There is nothing in the mystic tan solution that prevents you from tanning in the beds or in the sun. A number of customers have found that tanning with UV rays and the Mystic Tan tanning solution has given them a better overall tan.

Are there ways to enhance my Mystic Tans? Yes! Exfoliating your entire body a few hours prior to your Mystic application makes your Mystic Tan go on evenly all over. Applying a water based moisturizer prior to tanning will actually help the skin absorb the Mystic Tan solution. Moisturizing the skin frequently also helps the tan last longer. Ask one of our Tanning Consultants about our Mystic Tan Line of Products available to you in the salon.

How Many Times do I need to tan with Mystic Tan to achieve my desired colour? You will be tanned after just one session, but it may take an additional session or two to achieve your desired colour. There are 3 different levels of colour intensity to choose from, this allows tanners to choose which colour is just perfect for them.

I Have Fair Skin; will Mystic Tan give me a Tan? Yes! Mystic Tan was designed specifically for individuals who can’t or don’t want to tan conventionally.
